## What Is Value Betting?

### Closing Line Value (CLV)
CLV measures how your bet odds compare to the final odds before an event starts. Consistently beating the closing line is the strongest predictor of long-term profitability. Even if you lose a bet, beating CLV indicates you're making +EV decisions.

### Sharp vs Soft Books
Sharp books (Pinnacle, Circa, Bookmaker) take large bets and have accurate lines. Soft books (DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM) have weaker lines but limit winning bettors. Value bettors use sharp book odds as the "true" price and find edges at soft books.

### Vig/Juice
The margin sportsbooks build into odds. On a -110/-110 market, you need to win 52.4% just to break even. Removing vig reveals true probabilities.
